‘Kalighat Kaku’ Sujay Krishna Bhadra gets interim bail on health grounds, faces strict conditions

Sujay Krishna Bhadraa, widely known as 'Kalighat Kaku,' has been granted interim bail by the Calcutta High Court in connection with the ongoing recruitment scam case in West Bengal. The decision came on Tuesday after the court considered Bhadra’s poor health. Justice Arijit Banerjee and Justice Apurba Sinha Roy of the Calcutta High Court ruled that Bhadra's medical condition was serious enough to warrant temporary release from jail. However, the court imposed several stringent conditions for his bail.

According to the court’s order, Bhadra will only be allowed to travel between his home and the hospital, with no permission granted for any other movement. The court has mandated that central security forces be stationed at his residence at all times. Additionally, Bhadra must provide the CBI with details of the two mobile numbers he is currently using. The court also permitted Bhadra to undergo medical procedures, such as surgery, if necessary, during the bail period.

Bhadra, who had previously been granted bail in a case involving the Enforcement Directorate (ED), was later re-arrested by the CBI after they filed a fresh case against him. The CBI had invoked the 'shone arrest' process, preventing his release. Bhadra’s health deteriorated significantly during this period, prompting his hospitalization. The court's decision to grant bail was influenced by the severity of his medical condition and his need for medical attention.

The CBI, which is investigating Bhadra's involvement in the recruitment scam, has been collecting evidence, including voice samples from him, for forensic analysis. These samples will be used in the ongoing investigation into the case. Bhadra had filed a bail petition citing his health as a reason, and the High Court subsequently asked the CBI to provide his medical report before granting the relief.

Bhadra’s bail is granted under strict conditions, and the court has made it clear that he must fully cooperate with the CBI’s ongoing investigation. The interim bail is set to remain in effect until the end of March, subject to compliance with the court's stipulations. Once all legal formalities are completed, Bhadra’s release is expected.
